Miss Asmau A

Miss A had open heart surgery (Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Ligation and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) closure)
The surgery WAS a PDA LIGATION. The ligation of the PDA was the actual surgery.
PDA is a heart problem in which the connections between the aorta and pulmonary artery which should have sealed up a few days after birth persists causing oxygenated blood to recirculate through the lungs after birth – leading to lung damage, fatigue, failure to develop properly etc
PDA Ligation means the persisting connection is tied/closed up.
VSD – in lay man’s terms is a hole in the heart.
